The team journeys to the anarchist world of Calypso where they encounter an old friend of Hound, Gert Ehrnie, a successful arms dealer. Gert informs the crew that their contact on Bamberg is a fraud but likes the idea of stocking some heavier weapons. She asks the crew to obtain the weapons from a supply train on the deeply loyalist world of Dionysus.

Bamberg prepares for war! The crew grab a needed piece of gear and continue to hunt down the Duke's killer. They race to the planet Eros where they encounter the assassin. He bargains what is left of his freedom for the name of his employer: Admiral Davin Bibble.

The crew gain another clue as to their employer's identity. Soon they are contacted by agents of the Duke. The planetary government is on heightened alert following the assassination of the previous Duke mere days after an open skirmish with the United Republic of Planets. Upon receiving the letter, the new Duke tasks our heroes with locating his father's killer while he and the other dukes vote on going to war.

The crew of the Ruby Soho raid Representative Marik's estate and make off with the Tanquar 1977. In the aftermath of their escape a disturbing report surfaces on the news: someone has killed the representative's family. The heroes run for the planet Bamburg to continue their mission and try to ascertain what happened. 

Meanwhile a clever note Vonlan left at the scene may prove to be more trouble than it is worth.
